The players from Latin America appear in Belarusian football really seldom, but Leandro Torres blew his cover and started Argentinean revolution in Belarusian football.
The 28-year-old started to play football in Newell Old Boys, where made 55 appearances in Argentinean Primera. Besides, Torres played in Ecuador, Thailand and Chile. After these adventures the flamboyant midfielder started his Belarusian career, but ‘Chino’ didn’t have the best time at Belshina, and during summer transfer window he moved from Bobruisk to Brest.
If you are a stocky and highly skilled player, you won’t avoid comparison with Messi. But Leandro knows the star not by hearsay: "When a kid, I played together with Lionel Messi in one football academy. At the age of 12 Messi moved to Spain. We have never been close friends, we just played in one academy".
To a close eye, Torres has typical Latin-American features: perfect ball control, partner’s feeling and timely and accurate passing. All this helped ‘Chino’ to score three goals and make two assists in 15 appearances for the Blue-Whites.
We hope, the adaptation period in our country is over and in 2017 we shall witness a classy Argentinean play.
Leandro admits, that it’s hard to get used to Belarusian life, but not impossible: “I knew about severe winters, but I was not prepared to the summer heat. I thought that everything would be under the snow the whole year. All my spare time I spend with my family: with my wife Noelia, daughter Agostina and son Francesco. We love walking around the city. Most of all, we like Mukhavets river side and, for sure, the trademark of the city – Sovetskaya street with its cozy cafes and restaurants”.
